Welcome to the 5th Grade!

     Hello!  My name is Mrs. Joy  Kerner.  There will be  many great  learning experiences that lay ahead  and I am excited to have your child in my class this year!

     First, I would like to briefly to introduce myself.  I graduated from CSU Fresno with a degree in child development.  During the 1980's, I taught and directed preschool  and taught in the  elementary school here at FCCA.  In 1988, I got married and left FCCA to finish my credential at Fresno Pacific University.  I then taught in several public schools until my daughter was born in 1994.  I stayed home with my daughter until she started Kindergarten at FCCA in 1999.  At that time I came back to FCCA and taught kindergarten and then moved to the fourth and fifth grades where I have been ever since.  My daughter attended FCCA until she graduated from the 8th grade.  She is now a senior at University High School. 

    Being both a parent and teacher, I understand and stress the importance of effective parent/teacher communication.  This is a vital part of your child's success in school.  I will strive to communicate with you through weekly newsletters, parent/teacher conferences, and through the school's website.  This will keep you informed of what is happening in the classroom.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that come up during the school year by phone or by email.
